Today we practiced estimating square roots of non-perfect squares. We used perfect squares on either side to narrow it down to a good estimate. We read page 95-98 together and completed the Show You Knows. The assignments was p.99 #4-15. Next class we will do more questions with Pythagorean Relationship.
Last week the students learned about Pythagorean relationship. We completed page 92 #4-11 and page 93. #12-17. This week we will look at estimating square roots, pages 95-100, and then move on to more problems using Pythagorean relationship (p. 101-111).
We began learning about squares and square roots. Remember a number squared means you multiply the number by itself. For example 3 squared means 3x3=9. Square root means "What number multiplied by itself equals the given number?" For example, the square root of 36 is 6 because 6 times itself equals 36. This week the students were asked to master the squares and square roots to 100, then 225, then 400. A quick quiz for each will occur this week and early next week. The hand-out for this can be found below. The assignments this week were page 86, #17-23 . Tomorrow we will begin learning about the Pythagorean Relationship. We will complete pages 88-91 together, then the students will complete page 92 #4-7.
We finished our unit today on ratio, rate and proportional reasoning. Next class (Monday) the students will complete a practice quiz, then on Wednesday will complete the unit test. The information sheet is provided below, if you have misplaced it.
