This week we will be finishing chapter 6. Make sure you come for help if you have anything you are struggling with. The test will be on Thursday, April 14th. This will be the last marks for term three report card.
Last week we began chapter 6 (Fractions). We completed p. 202-203 # 6-14 and p. 208-209 # 4-12. This was multiplying and dividing fractions. We are having a quiz on Tuesday (March 1st).
6.3 p. 214-215 #3-11 and 14-15 6.4 p. 220-221 #4-16 6.5 p. 227-228 #5-17 Work book 6.1 #7-10 6.2 # 5-9 6.3 # 5,6,8,9 Next week..... 6.6 p. 234-235 #4-14 Chapter review p. 236-237 #6-27 Test after Spring Break. We are finishing up our volume unit. The assignments this week are page 273 #5-10 and the chapter review p. 276-277 # 5-16 and # 19. The chapter 7 test will be on Wednesday, February 17th.
We began chapter 7 today, learning about volume. The assignment today was p. 250-251 #3-14. Remember volume of regular prisms is the area of the base shape multiplied by the height. For cubes and rectangular prisms you can use length x width x height. For triangular prisms it is the base of the triangle multiplied by the height of the triangle (which are the two dimensions that form the right angle) multiplied by the height of the prism.
p. 186 #3-12, pages 188-189 # 7,10,11 and 13-19, and workbook 5.4 # 1-6.
This week we learned about surface area of prisms and cylinders. Remember that surface area is the sum of the area of all faces. Area of a rectangle is length x width. Area of a triangle is base x height divided by 2. Area of a circle is 3.14 x r x r. Circumference of a circle is 3.14 x the diameter. The surface of a cylinder is 3.14 x r x r x 2 + 3.14 x diameter x height. The assignments were workbook p.54-55 # 2-6 and p. 186 #3-12. The chapter test will be Thursday, January 21st.
We continued learning about fractions, percents and decimals. This week the assignment will be pages 135-136 #4-12 and some extra questions from the workbook and pages 142 and 143 # 3-13. Make sure you refer back to the examples and Key Ideas boxes if you are unsure of something. You can also come see me or use the help sites if you need extra help. There will likely be a chapter test on Tuesday, December 8th.
To begin the second term, the students have been learning about percent. They completed pages 128-129 #4,5, 7-13, 15 and 16. An instruction sheet is posted below.
