We began a unit about light and optics. The students read pages 288-293. Next class they will complete p.293 questions 1-6. The Bill Nye video is below (sorry the quality isn't great).
We completed our lab today on reaction time. This is due tomorrow (December 17th) morning.
We continue learning about the circulatory system. There will be a quiz this Thursday on the two diagrams (heart and circulatory system) and a quiz next Thursday (December 10th) covering everything in the package I gave the students.
We began learning about the circulatory system. I have included the information sheets below. Unfortunately, due to copyright issues, I cannot find decent copies of the two Bill Nye videos the students will be watching to give you access to. I will, however, post any other video links here.
The students learned about the respiratory system. The information sheets are below. There will be a quiz on Monday.
The term ended with an assignment about chapter 2 and a lab about the Respiratory system. These will be the last two things for marks in the first term. Make sure they are both completed and handed in. The assignment was p. 40-42 #1-3, p. 43-47 #1-5, p. 48-50 # 1-3, p. 51-53 #1-3, and p. 54-56 # 1-4. The answer key is below.
This week the students will be finishing up chapter 2. The assignment will be due, at the latest, on Monday, November 2nd.
p. 40-42 #1-3 (Just copy the chart for #3). p. 43-47 #1-5 p. 48-50 # 1-3 p. 51-53 #1-3 p. 54-56 #1-4 We will then begin a more extensive study of the body systems. Most of the students completed the chapter 1 test last week. If they did not pass the test, they were given the opportunity to study over the weekend and retake the test Tuesday at lunch. Please make sure this opportunity is taken, so a passing grade can be achieved. Those who do not retake the test and pass, will be referred to Academic Intervention. This is seen as the final opportunity to attain a passing grade for the term.
Today we begin the gummi worm lab. The lab will take place today and end Friday, so they can measure results over time. The chapter 1 test will be on Tuesday (October 20th). Last class we talked about ways to study and to deal with test anxiety. The students were given a hand-out to review the concepts covered in chapter 1. It is included here as well.
The students have been learning about plant and animal cells. They should all have filled in a diagram of the parts and a chart of the functions. Next class we will be watching two short videos on animal and plant cells. If you were absent for any classes, the hand-outs and videos are available here.
